Jusqu'à présent, je ne possédais que le n° 5 du Cabinet de l'amateur sur la boite en valise, qui la décrit très bien. J'ai pu enfin sauter le pas et m'offrir cet objet mythique de Marcel Duchamp ou Rrose Sélavy. Le résultat est un ravissement pour l'oeil et l'esprit, surtout lorsque l'on connaît la trajectoire atypique de Duchamp. Cette boite en valise est un judicieux complément aux écrits de l'auteur, à travers desquels on comprendra son importance dans le milieu artistique du 20e siècle.

Un must pour fan de Duchamp. La seul amélioration serait d'avoir un cadre bois au lieu de carton plastifier pour être encore plus fidèle à l'original...

This is a remarkable recreation of Duchamp's Green Valise. A lot of effort went into its making and its a treat to open, unfold, and explore. One note about the description, however, it is not leather-bound (nor did I expect it to be). It is printed cardboard. If it were leather-bound, the price would have to be significantly larger than the already surprising modest price given the meticulous construction.

I've seen a couple of specimens of the real, original Boîte-en-valise, in a museum and a gallery; obviously I'll never afford one of those, and this is as close as I'll ever get... IMHO production of these boxes for under $200 must have been a labor of love by somebody who can't be making much on them. This Boîte is not made of deluxe materials, but given that it's all cardboard & plastic, the quality of the reproductions and miniaturizations is excellent, meticulously prepared by someone who knows and cars about Duchamp's work. (That would be M. Mercier, I guess.) If the owner takes good care of it and keeps it in an environment of reasonably-controlled temperature and humidity, IMHO this Boîte will last a lifetime.M. Mercier pls take note: having said the above, I still would have been willing to pay a lot more for an edition done in materials close to the original Boîtes, e.g. a wood & metal box and perhaps some items such as the "Large Glass" done in glass... say, 3 times as much... ;-)

For any scholar of Marcel Duchamp, Mathieu Mercier's "Marcel Duchamp: Boîte-en-valise (or of Marcel..." is the world's greatest thing! It is more than a book! It is a recreation of history. Some have complained about the quality of the object, but it is a (not) cheap reproduction. Every fault mentioned about this object is stingy myopic criticism. One could not ask for a better facsimile for the suggested retail price! Yes, it is a paper and cardboard reproduction of the1968 version of "Boîte-en-valise," but to dismiss this object as a "cheap"/"could be better" is very short sighted. This book is FABULOUS--nothing to complain about--and going through it is a transcendental experience! I teach art history and already knew too much about Duchamp, but I was flabbergasted to have learned even more about him through this "book." This "book" that is not a book is sensational. (It does warrant the use of gloves for preservation purposes. When needing to examine it thus, the experience of viewing it is enhanced all the more making it an even better/authentic experience in going through all of its contents--akin to experiencing an original). I give it my highest recommendation!

The scope and complexity of this book is great - for the price it's an amazing object and value.The product pictured for this item on Amazon is different - it looks like it's cloth and wood.On the version I received some corners were cut. The wood is a wood-pattern printed on glossy paper attached to cardboard, and they have some weird details (like these fake screws that I've photographed that make it seem cheap). As the other feedback mentioned, it is not leather bound.Considering how much work was involved, the publishers should have charged an extra $50+ and had this made from cheap, real wood and screws.This reminds me of old Visionare magazines (editions), which are better produced but around $250.

A terrific reproduction of this iconic piece!
